1. Hi my name is Steven Nguyen and something that brought me joy this summer was being able to travel to different places and see/experience new things!
2. One of the ways that I’ve used AI was using it as a consultant for problems I had trouble navigating. An example of this is me asking AI what foods I should be eating to meet my protein goals.
3. I’ve been using AI in my digital design courses by having it assist me with idea generation and concepts for works. I’ll ask the AI to help brainstorm ideas based off a prompt I give it and I would further refine those suggestions and build upon it. For example, I was working on a logo for one of my classes and I had trouble mind-mapping words that related to the company, so I asked AI to generate a list of words for me and from there I chose a word that I thought fit best and made a logo.
4. Something surprising I learned from the reading assignment was when the author mentioned that when AI starts to work reliably, it fades into the background and we begin to take the AI for granted. Some of the examples they provided of this are the Roomba, Spell-check, autocomplete on text messages, etc. This is surprising to me because I’ve fallen victim to this myself, and at one point, I stopped caring about whether or not a car was on autopilot or if an application was able to recognize my speech. It just became a part of everyday life.
5. Something surprising I learned from the AI literacy lecture was the difference between the different types of artificial intelligence, being generative AI and predictive AI. It was interesting to know how to evaluate one or the other and to know the difference.
6. Some things that I can currently do better than AI is design something new and original (since AI is trained on pre-existing data), feel/read emotions, and play a physical sport.
